Jeden ersten Montag im Monat stellen wir euch neue Kunst am KIT vor. Des Weiteren wird es um die formalen Zugangsvoraussetzungen zum Studium, den Bewerbungsprozess insgesamt sowie die neue praxisbezogene Aufgabe, Sprachkenntnisse und das hochschuleigene Auswahlverfahren gehen. Wir nehmen außerdem die Besonderheiten des Studiengangs am KIT im Vergleich zu anderen Hochschul(art)en in den Blick und du lernst mögliche weitere Kriterien für deine persönliche Studienentscheidung kennen. Ein aktives Mitwirken deinerseits durch Fragen, Fragen, Fragen ist ausdrücklich erwünscht!   Die Veranstaltung findet in deutscher Sprache statt. Eine Anmeldung ist nur bis 12.00 Uhr am Vortag möglich.   Hinweis: Die Veranstaltung findet über zoom statt. Zeitnah vor Veranstaltungsbeginn wird der Link zum Meetingraum per Email an die bei der Anmeldung benutzten Emailadresse verschickt. Um an der Veranstaltung teilzunehmen, wird ein Laptop, Tablet oder Handy mit Internetzugang, Mikrofon und Kamera benötigt.

Was ist Reallaborforschung, wie kann sie das Stadtleben verändern und wie kannst du dich daran beteiligen? Diesen Fragen gehen wir vom 2. bis 6. Juli im Rahmen des Real:labor Festivals näher auf den Grund. Gemeinsam diskutieren wir über konkrete Lösungsmöglichkeiten für die angestrebte Nachhaltigkeitswende und konzentrieren uns unter anderem auf aktuelle Themen wie Roboter in der Pflege, Autonomes Fahren und die Dringlichkeit eines barrierefreien Miteinanders. Von Dienstag bis Samstag heißt es: Experimentieren, Forschen und die eigene Stadt mitgestalten! Auf Dich wartet ein Open Air Kino, ein musikalisch begleiteter Flohmarkt und Workshops aller Art. Besonders der Family & Friends-Day am Samstag, den 6. Juli, bietet dabei jede Menge Programm für Groß und Klein. Der Eintritt ist für alle Programmpunkte kostenlos! Das angrenzende intro Café hat für die kleine Stärkung und das ein oder andere Erfrischungsgetränk zwischendurch viele regionale Leckereien für Dich im Angebot.

Zum Auftakt des Real:labor Festivals gewährt uns Dr. Ksenia Keplinger Einblick in ihr Projekt über Facial Recognition Systems. Human-in-the-loop (HITL) systems, which combine human intelligence with artificial intelligence (AI), have become integral to various tasks and decision-making processes in modern organizations. However, the factors that contribute to enhancing the performance of HITL in the workplace still remain unclear. This research aims to explore the interplay between AI advice and human expertise within HITL systems, with a specific focus on assessing their efficiency. By applying signaling theory to the HITL context, the study delves into how various signals influence the performance of HITL systems. By incorporating facial recognition systems as a novel context into organizational research, this study explores unique high-stakes scenarios in the complex and uncertain work environment. The findings, derived from three experimental studies with approximately 900 participants, reveal a significant positive impact of providing an option for employees to solicit AI advice. When AI signals are chosen by employees rather than forced upon them, participants are more likely to implement AI advice, thus enhancing the overall efficiency of HITL systems in the workplace. This research advances theoretical and empirical understanding of human-machine interaction in the workplace by expanding signaling theory to the HITL context and offering valuable recommendations for designing HITL systems that strike an optimal balance between human judgment and AI assistance.
